About this tool
Fuel Cost Calculator converts distance and efficiency into fuel needed and cost. With L/100 km it multiplies distance by efficiency over 100; with mpg or km/L it divides distance by efficiency. The price is interpreted per liter for metric units and per US gallon for mpg, and the total cost is the fuel amount times the price. All math is local.
Budget a road trip or commute before you fill up. Enter the distance, your vehicle fuel efficiency, and the fuel price, and the calculator returns the fuel needed and the total cost. Efficiency can be entered as liters per 100 km, miles per US gallon, or kilometers per liter, with the price unit matching automatically.

How to use this tool
Type the trip length in kilometers or miles; use whichever unit your efficiency uses.
Choose L/100 km, mpg, or km/L, enter your vehicle figure, then the fuel price. The price unit hint follows your choice.
The total trip cost is shown with the fuel needed and the inputs you used.
Key features
Liters per 100 km, miles per US gallon, and kilometers per liter cover metric and imperial habits.
The hint tells you whether the price is per liter or per US gallon for the selected efficiency unit.
See exactly how much fuel the trip consumes, useful for planning stops.

Frequently asked questions
The calculator handles the units for you. As a rule of thumb, 235.2 divided by mpg gives L/100 km for US gallons.
US gallons. The UK imperial gallon is about 20 percent larger, so UK mpg figures are not directly comparable.
Real consumption varies with traffic, load, speed, weather, and driving style. The estimate uses your single efficiency number.
It depends on the efficiency unit. The hint below the field tells you which unit the price should use.
